Bactrynium was named by Emmrich (1855) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Bactryniinae, Bactryniidae.
It was assigned to Thecideida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bactryniinae by Williams et al. (2006).
