Taxonomy
Thecospira was named by Zugmayer (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 1,1066]. It is the type genus of Thecospiridae.

It was assigned to Thecideida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Thecospiridae by Williams et al. (2006).
