Taxonomy
Orthis actoniae was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839). It is the type species of Nicolella.

It was recombined as Nicolella actoniae by Alikhova (1953), Rubel (1961), Williams (1963), Wright (1964) and Mitchell (1977).
