Strophomena concava was named by Holtedahl (1916). It is the type species of Palaeostrophomena.
It was synonymized subjectively with Inversella borealis by Opik (1933); it was recombined as Palaeostrophomena concava by Mitchell (1977) and Cocks (2010).
