Ahtiella portlocki was named by Reed (1952).

It was recombined as Brachyprion portlocki by Mitchell (1977); it was recombined as Pholidostrophia (Eopholidostrophia) portlocki by Cocks (1978); it was recombined as Eopholidostrophia portlocki by Strusz and Percival (2018).
