Atrypa hemiplicata was named by Hall (1847).

It was recombined as Parastrophia hemiplicata by Hall and Clarke (1893); it was recombined as Parastrophinella hemiplicata by Thorsteinsson (1958); it was recombined as Parastrophina hemiplicata by Jin and Popov (2008).
