Sceloenopla dominicana was named by Samuelson and Staines (2000). Its type specimen is BPBM 16206, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (BPBM collection), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
