Bilobites verneuilianus was named by Beecher (1891).

It was recombined as Dicoelosia verneuiliana by Beecher (1891), Wright (1968) and Bassett and Cocks (1974); it was misspelled as Dicoelosia verneuilliana by Watkins (2000).
