Taxonomy
Harpes megalops was named by McCoy (1846). It is the type species of Harpidella.

It was recombined as Harpidella megalops by M'Coy (1849), Owen and Bruton (1980), Owen (1981), Owen and Harper (1982) and Owens and Hammann (1990).
