Tachyini was named by Motschulsky (1862). It is extant.

It was reranked as the subtribe Tachyina by Bouchard et al. (2011) and Ortuño and Arillo (2015).

It was assigned to Carabinae by Erwin (1971); to Bembidiini by Bouchard et al. (2011) and Ortuño and Arillo (2015); and to Trechitae by Maddison et al. (2019).
