Taxonomy
Agrion antiquum was named by Pictet (1848). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Berendt collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.

It was recombined as Platycnemis antiqua by Bechly (1998).
