Taxonomy
Stromatocystites was named by Pompeckj (1896). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Stromatocystitidae.
It was assigned to Edrioasteroidea by Ubaghs (1999); to Stromatocystitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Edrioasteroida by Parsley and Prokop (2004); and to Stromatocystitidae by Regnéll (1945), Regnéll (1966), Jell et al. (1985) and Zhao et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Edrioasteroidea by Ubaghs (1999); to Stromatocystitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Edrioasteroida by Parsley and Prokop (2004); and to Stromatocystitidae by Regnéll (1945), Regnéll (1966), Jell et al. (1985) and Zhao et al. (2010).
