Lichas (Arges) wesenbergensis was named by Schmidt (1885). It is the type species of Hemiarges.

It was recombined as Hemiarges wessenbergensis by Owen (1981); it was recombined as Hemiarges wesenbergensis by Thomas and Holloway (1988).
