Taxonomy
Trilobites asellus was named by Esmark (1833). Its type specimen is PMO 56442 (Cephalon + thorax) and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Proetus asellus by Stormer (1940); it was recombined as Decoroproetus asellus by Owens (1973).
