Taxonomy
Cardium brewerii was named by Gabb (1864). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Plagiocardium (Schedocardia) brewerii by Stewart (1930) and Turner (1938); it was recombined as Loxocardium (Schedocardia) brewerii by Weaver (1942); it was recombined as Acanthocardia brewerii by Givens and Kennedy (1979); it was recombined as Acanthocardia (Schedocardia) brewerii by Squires (1984), Squires (1987) and Moore (2003); it was recombined as Schedocardia breweri by Nilsen (1987); it was recombined as Schedocardia brewerii by Hendy (2020).

Synonyms
  • Arca columbiana was named by Weaver and Palmer (1922). Its type specimen is UW (unknown number), a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UW 337, which is in a Bartonian marine horizon in the Cowlitz Formation of Washington.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Schedocardia brewerii by Weaver (1943).
  • Cardium oldroydi was named by Weaver and Palmer (1922). Its type specimen is CSS 7438, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UW 329, which is in a Bartonian marine horizon in the Cowlitz Formation of Washington.

    It was recombined as Loxocardium (Schedocardia) brewerii oldroydi by Weaver (1942); it was synonymized subjectively with Schedocardia brewerii by Hendy (2020).

prominent, umbonal area broad ; hinge line straight ; cardinal area narrow ; dorsal
line sloping slightly from the beaks ; anterior end rounded, passing into the
ventral margin with a curve ; ventral margin only slightly curved, extending
abruptly into the posterior end ; posterior end straight ; posterior end is more
flaring and concave than the anterior end ; there is a tendency for a slight
umbonal ridge to extend from the beaks to the posterior ventral margin ; shell
ornamented with 22 flat-topped, wide, very prominent radiating ribs with interspaces
nearly equal to the width of the ribs.
