Dinocerata was named by Marsh (1872). It is not extant.

It was reranked as the suborder Dinocerata by Cope (1875); it was synonymized subjectively with Dinocerea by Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Amblypoda by Cope (1875); to Eparctocyona by McKenna (1975); and to Eutheria by Carroll (1988).
