Astrocrinus was named by Morris (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066].

It was corrected as Asterocrinus by Paul et al. (2021).

It was assigned to Fissiculata by Sepkoski (2002); to Blastoidea by Bauer (2018); and to Astrocrinidae by Beaver et al. (1967) and Paul et al. (2021).
