Type species: Pentatrematites acutum Sowerby.

Taxonomy
Phaenoschisma was named by Etheridge and Carpenter (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 82,520,904]. It is not extant. Its type is Phaenoschisma acutum.

It was assigned to Phaenoschismatidae by Fay and Wanner (1967); and to Fissiculata by Sepkoski (2002).
