Sphaeroschisma was named by Wanner (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Sakm Sepkoski's reference number: 82,523]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Phaenoschismatidae by Fay and Wanner (1967); and to Fissiculata by Sepkoski (2002).
