Labidostomma was named by Kramer (1879). It is extant. It is the type genus of Labidostommatoidea.

It was assigned to Labidostomatidae by Sidorchuk and Bertrand (2013); and to Labidostommatidae by Dunlop and Bertrand (2011) and Dunlop et al. (2013).
