Chonetes (Eochonetes) advena was named by Reed (1917). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Sowerbyella (Eochonetes) advena by Dewing (1999); it was recombined as Eochonetes advena by Cocks (2005) and Bauer and Stigall (2016).
