Discinisca steiningeri was named by Radwanska and Radwanski (1989). Its type specimen is Cat. No, 1988/58 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Plesching Austernbank, which is in an Oligocene shallow subtidal sandstone in the Linz Sands Formation of Austria.
