Heteroblastus was named by Etheridge and Carperter (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Granatocrinidae by Beaver et al. (1967); and to Spiraculata by Sepkoski (2002).
