Schizoblastus was named by Etheridge and Carpenter (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 520]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Schizoblastidae.

It was assigned to Schizoblastidae by Beaver et al. (1967); and to Spiraculata by Sepkoski (2002).
