Ceraurus vigilans was named by Hall (1847).

It was recombined as Encrinurus vigilans by Okulitch (1935); it was recombined as Encrinuroides vigilans by Titus (1982); it was recombined as Erratencrinurus vigilans by Moss and Westrop (2014).

J. H. Bradley 1930 (Encrinurus trentonensis)The general outline is triangular, the length equaling the width. The axial lobe is narrow, rounded, and tapers posteriorly; one specimen shows twenty axial rings, with median nodes on the third, sixth, tenth, fourteenth, and eighteenth segment. The pleurae curve sharply to the lateral margins and are marked by nine ribs oli each side. An average specimen is 4 mm. long.
