Hemicosmites was named by Buch (1840). Its type is Hemicosmites pyriformis.

It was assigned to Hemicosmitidae by Regnéll (1945) and Bockelie (1979); and to Rhombifera by Sepkoski (2002).

H. extraneus, H. grandis, H. oelandicus, H. papaveris, H. pyriformis (type species), H. sculptus, H. sphaericus, H. variabilis

Synonyms

Hexalacystis was named by Haeckel (1896).

It was synonymized subjectively with Hemicosmites by Bockelie (1979).
