Scoliocystis was named by Jaekel (1899) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Caryocystites pumilus.

It was assigned to Rhombifera by Sepkoski (2002); and to Echinoencrinitidae by Paul and Rozhnov (2016).
