Asteroblastus was named by d'Eichwald (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Asteroblastus stellatus. It is the type genus of Asteroblastida, Asteroblastidae.
