Atrypa oklahomensis was named by Girty (1899) [= Atrypa reticularis Girty 1899, p. 547; of Reeds 1911, p. 267 [part] (not Anomia reticularis Linnaeus 1758);
= Atrypa reticularis Maxwell 1936 p. 89 (not Anomia reticularis Linnaeus 1758)]. Its type specimen is OU-992 and is a 3D body fossil.
