Taxonomy
Aulacostephanus (Xenostephanus) ranbyensis was named by Arkell and Callomon (1963). It is the type species of Zenostephanus.

It was recombined as Zonovia (Xenostephanus) ranbyensis by Mesezhnikov (1984); it was recombined as Zenostephanus ranbyensis by Callomon et al. (2009).
