Taxonomy
Strophomena rugata was named by Lindström (1861) [Lectotype designated by Bassett & Cocks 1974]. Its type specimen is RMS Br 102331 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Leptaenoidea.
It was recombined as Katastrophomena rugata by Cocks (1968); it was recombined as Leptaena rugata by Bassett and Cocks (1974); it was recombined as Leptaenoidea rugata by Rubel (2011).
