Baalzebub mesozoicum was named by Penney (2014). Its type specimen is IGR.GAR-1, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is La Robinière (La Garnache 1), Vendée amber, which is in a Turonian terrestrial amber in France.
