Ptilorhynchia jeletzkyi was named by Owen (1972). Its type specimen is GSC 31652 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC Loc. 62533, which is in a Tithonian carbonate limestone in the Teepee Mountain Formation of Canada.
