Edmondia ventricosa was named by Hall (1847).

It was recombined as Cypricardites ventricosa by Miller (1889); it was recombined as Bodmania ventricosa by Miller and Faber (1894); it was recombined as Whitella ventricosa by Ulrich (1894); it was recombined as Cyrtodontula ventricosa by Toni (1975).
