Apion (Aspidapion) was named by Schilsky (1901). It is extant. It is the type subgenus of Aspidapiini.

It was reranked as Aspidapion by Alonso-Zarazaga and Lyal (1999).

It was assigned to Apion by Schilsky (1901) and Zherikhin (1971); and to Aspidapiini by Alonso-Zarazaga and Lyal (1999).
