Spinulicosta muirwoodi was named by Johnson (1971) [Spinulicosta aff. navicella Muir-Wood & Cooper 1960, p. 154, P1. 33, figs. 6-17; not Hall.]. Its type specimen is USNM 157384 and is a 3D body fossil.
