Brachyprion mirabilis was named by Johnson (1970) ["Brachyprion" mirabilis. = cf. Shaleria sp. Boucot et al. 1960, p. 12, Pl. 2, figs. 23-26, Pl. 3, figs. 1-8.]. Its type specimen is USNM 156920 A-B and is a 3D body fossil.
