Taxonomy
Chonetes filistriata was named by Walcott (1884) [Holotype designated by Merriam (1940).]. Its type specimen is USNM 13811 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Devonochonetes filistriata by Muir-Wood (1962); it was recombined as Strophochonetes filistriata by Johnson (1970); it was recombined as Johnsonetes filistriata by Racheboeuf (1987).
