Trematospira infrequens was named by Walcott (1884). Its type specimen is USNM 13843 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Leptocoelia infrequens by Johnson (1970); it was recombined as Pacificocoelia infrequens by Boucot (1975).
