Taxonomy
Spirifer perforatus was named by Hall (1857) [Spirifer? perforatus = Trematospira multistriata Clarke, 1900, p. 43, PI. 6, figs. 1-4; not Hall = ?Trematospira sp. Amsden and Ventress, 1963, p. 127, Pl. 4, fig. 11. = ? cf. Straelenia sp. Talent, 1964, p. 32, Pl. 15, figs. 1, 2, 5, 7.].

It was recombined as Trematospira perforata by Hall (1859), Hall (1861) and Johnson (1970).
