Taxonomy
Spirifer (Trigonotreta) pinonensis was named by Meek (1870).

It was recombined as Spirifera pinyonensis by Walcott (1884); it was recombined as Spirifer pinyonensis by Merriam (1940); it was recombined as Acrospirifer pinyonensis by Cooper (1944); it was recombined as Eurekaspirifer pinyonensis by Johnson (1966) and Johnson (1970).
