Taxonomy
Leptostrophia was named by Hall and Clarke (1892). It is the type genus of Leptostrophiidae.

It was reranked as Stropheodonta (Leptostrophia) by Reed (1917).

It was assigned to Stropheodonta by Reed (1917); to Stropheodontidae by Bassett and Cocks (1974); to Leptostrophiidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
