Mjoesina rugata was named by Williams (1962). Its type specimen is BB.15230-1, a valve (Internal and external mould of pedicle valve), and it is a 3D body fossil.

A. Williams 1962Subquadrate Mjoesina about four-fifths as long as broad, with an evenly convex pedicle valve and a gently concave brachial valve becoming sharply geniculate dorsally at 6 mm. from the umbo and commonly bearing a low, narrow, median fold; costellae cancellated, commonly 5 or 6 per millimetre antero-medianly, and grouped into sectors over 1 mm. wide by thicker costae and costellae, posterolateral areas corrugated by short rugae, with a wave-length just over 1 mm., and commonly arranged as 3 pairs on either side of the umbo more or less normal to the hinge-line; ventral muscle-scar about onethird as long as the pedicle valve, and slightly wider than long; socket plates strong, curved, and widely divergent, each commonly crenulated by 4 denticles.
