Fardenia scalena was named by Williams (1962) [= Hemipronites carrickensis Reed 1917, p. 918, pl. xxi, figs. 24--26. = Hemipronites thomsoni Reed 1917, p. 919, pl. xxi, fig. 27, non fig. 28.]. Its type specimen is BB.15888, a shell (complete shell), and it is a 3D body fossil.

A. Williams 1962Variably subtrigonal, unequally biconvex Fardenia with a pedicle valve over three-quarters as long and almost one-fifth as deep as wide and a brachial valve, about one-quarter as deep as wide, rarely shallowly sulcate postero-medianly; hinge-line almost three-quarters of the maximum width of the shell, ventral interarea long, up to one-sixth of the length of the pedicle valve, with a well-developed pseudodeltidium and a large supra-apical foramen, brachial interarea short, chilidium small, obtusely triangular; costellae strong, arising by intercalation or branching, numbering 3 or 4 per millimetre at about 7.5 mm. from the umbo and cancellated by fine concentric lamellae about 10 to the millimetre; dental lamellae long, divergent, ventral muscle-scar subcordate, dorsal median septum weak, vascula media divergent.
