Taxonomy
Leptellina semilunata was named by Williams (1962). Its type specimen is BB.26034, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South-east side of quarry, ½ mile north-east of Brockloch Farm, which is in a Llandeilo carbonate mudstone/limestone in the Stinchar Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Leptellina (Leptellina) semilunata by Candela and Harper (2014).

Williams 1962Strongly concavo-convex and semi-elliptical Leptellina with the pedicle valves nearly onehalf as deep as long and two-thirds as long as wide; ornamentation finely parvicostellate with a modal count of 9 or 10 costellae per millimetre antero-medianly and 5 strongly accentuated costae conspicuous umbonally, concentric lamellae rarely and distantly developed; lophophore platform almost three-fifths as long as wide and averaging one-half the length of the brachial valve; ventral muscle-scar subtriangular, over one-fifth as long as the pedicle valve.
