Taxonomy
Buprestis major was named by Germar (1837). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Orsberg (Goldfuss Bonn collection), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Buprestites major by Bellamy (2008).
