Volchovia was named by Hecker (1938) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Ashg-u]. It is the type genus of Volchoviidae.
It was assigned to Ophiocistioidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Volchoviidae by Haude and Langenstrassen (1976) and Reich and Haude (2004).
