Dictyothurites was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 960]. It is extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Dictyothurites corbisema.

It was assigned to Holothuroidea by Deflandre-Rigaud (1959); to Priscopedatidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) and Frizzell and Exline (1966); and to Dendrochirotida by Sepkoski (2002).
