Taxonomy
Elgerius was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l Sepkoski's reference number: 960]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Elgerius ostrea.

It was assigned to Holothuroidea by Deflandre-Rigaud (1959); to Calclamnidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962), Frizzell and Exline (1966) and Soodan (1991); and to Dendrochirotida by Sepkoski (2002).
