Parvioctoidus was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo Sepkoski's reference number: 950]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Parvioctoidus spinosus.

It was assigned to Calclamnidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) and Frizzell and Exline (1966); and to Dendrochirotida by Sepkoski (2002).
